While still camping at the Orlando RV Park, we visited Lake Louisa State Park which was just up the road from us. On our quest to find alligators, we thought it might be a good spot. It is a large park surrounded by several small lakes and the largest one Lake Louisa.

There are several trails but trying to figure out their map proved to be a challenge. We ended up looking for the boardwalk which was close to the beach. Well let me tell you about the beach. It's small, has beautiful white sand with grasses growing through at certain spots AND there is a sign right there on the beach warning of alligators! Who in their right mind would want to swim after seeing such a sign? AND the water is kind of dark and murky. You would never see it coming! The trail along there was very close to the water so I kept little Cheeka on leash. In some areas there was water on both sides. The setting was kind of spooky with mangroves and spanish moss hanging. Still, no alligators!

What is really cool about a lot of State Parks is the equestrian camping they offer. They provide an area large enough to accommodate larger trailers, water for the horses, paddocks with shelters and miles of beautiful sandy trails. Wouldn't it be nice to have this in Canada? The cherry on top is that it is also a very cheap form of camping (even horseless people can camp there) at anywhere from free to $12/night. I was so impressed with the facilities! At this park they also had one composting toilet but no electricity or potable water. There is a dump for grey and black water at the actual campground located a little further. Most of these parks have a dump. Some offer a place to get drinking water. It's worth even going for the day.

It was a nice place to visit but we had to get back to our campsite and get ready to move on.
